6 Tips to prepare for your engagement session
Recently engaged and you just booked your photographer but you’re not sure what to expect for your engagement session? Hi, my name is Susanna and I am a Ohio Wedding Photographer and Here are my top 6 tips!
First of all congrats on getting engaged, this is seriously an EXCITING time of your life! As a wedding photographer and someone who got engaged… and wished I was better prepared for my session here are my biggest tips. <3
- Number one on my list and probably the most important is… Make sure you aren’t super stressed heading into your session. And I know that’s wayyyy easier said than done but my reason for it. If you or your fiance are stressed out you aren’t going to feel like being super lovey-dovey with your partner and it may show in your final images. Hopefully, your photographer can lighten the mood but try planning ahead of time to avoid being stressed, such as making sure you will have enough time for everything the day of.
- Use this as your trial run for your hair and makeup. 2 birds with one stone, you’ve gotten your trials done + you will be so glad later that you had your hair & makeup done professionally. (I regret not doing this).
- Plan for at least two outfits, maybe something more dressy and one that’s a bit more casual. True to you + Timeless (in my opion) is the way to go. Having an outfit change gives you SO many photo options. The casual outfit may allow for more moving + flexible poses. Dirty Dancing anyone? But whoever your photographer may be always reachout to them with outfit questions if you’re not sure or need some help on whats going to look best!
- Bring some props like: A bottle of champagne, hat, glasses, veil, ect! Let your photographer know what you’re thinking!
- Another big one in my opinion is put together a vison board for the type of vibe you want for your engagement session and send it to your photograoher so you can both be on the same page to create the perfect visual legacy for you and your partner. Your photograper is probably a visionary and loves helping create the perfect session accoriding to you + your fiance and keep in mind every session will look different because every couple’s story is unique.
- Last but not least… Have fun! Seriously, make it a date. Pick a location you know you will both love and feel the most relaxed and like yourself. Maybe end it at a winery, with icecream, pizza, ice skating. The options are endless! These photos are the beginning of shocasing your love story and your engagement session is the perfect way to become comfortable with being in front of the camera and photographer.
